Kathryn Berkowitz, Perinatal Professionals for Life
Pregnancy and birth are transformative times in a woman's life. Every woman deserves knowledgeable, compassionate support to navigate the maze of maternity care and integrate the many physical and emotional changes that are normal parts of becoming a mother.
This support becomes even more crucial to a pregnant woman when abortion is part of her past. Postpabortive women have reported a greater incidence of difficulties in the normal processes of pregnancy, childbirth and parenting. These difficulties may manifest as physical or emotional symptoms which put women, and their babies, at risks for complications such as preterm birth, difficult childbirth, postpartum depression and breastfeeding and bonding challenges.
Perinatal professionals, such as childbirth educators, labor, birth and postpartum doulas, midwives and obstetricians are becoming more aware of the special needs of postabortive women in subsequent pregnancies. For more information, please contact Kathryn Berkowitz at birthdance@aol.com
